About the Benny Fund

In 2013, a Cincinnati area rescue group pulled a dog (Benny) from the Brown County Animal Shelter in Georgetown, Ohio.  Little over one year old at the time, the dog was sweet and shy and so very full of energy.  Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms which required treatment and approximately four months of care.

During the lengthy treatment cycle, he remained in the rescue shelter and required crate rest. This extended confinement negatively impacted his behavior and temperament and made finding a suitable adopter very challenging.  Thus, he was adopted by an experienced volunteer of the rescue organization and her husband and officially given the name Benny.

Based upon Benny’s experience, the couple recognized the significant impact shelter environment plays in helping dogs find their furever homes.  Therefore, they established The Benny Fund in order to assist shelters, rescues and related organizations with infrastructure and environmental improvements that enrich shelter animals’ lives.

In addition, the fund has played a key role in rural spay and neuter initiatives, medical funding, fostering, behavioral training and enrichment programs.  The fund leaders have provided guidance and support to numerous organizations across the country with a focus on county animal shelters and rural animal rescue groups.

The Benny Fund hopes to improve the lives of stray and abandoned animals while also enriching the lives of our fellow citizens and positively impacting our community.
